Mr. Boland concentrates his practice in international and domestic trademark law. His extensive global experience is in all areas of trademarks including oppositions, cancellations, infringements, passing-off actions, anti-counterfeiting and diversion; the selection and clearance of trademarks; the preparation, filing and prosecution of applications and renewals; licensing; and the acquisition and divestiture of trademark assets.
Mr. Boland's experience is extensive in both private practice and as in-house counsel. His many years as Trademark Counsel for prestige fragrance companies Charles of the Ritz Group Ltd. and Yves St. Laurent Parfums Corporation, as well as consumer brand companies, S.C. Johnson and Son, Inc. and Colgate-Palmolive Company provide Mr. Boland with an expertise which is of special help in understanding and counseling corporate clients and in-house counsel.
His international experience includes the landmark worldwide litigation of Ritz Hotel Limited vs. Charles of the Ritz Group Ltd., a dispute involving litigation in 34 countries over more than five years. That worldwide conflict and other global litigation for other clients has given Mr. Boland a multi-country litigation expertise matched by few. His expertise in combination with other skills has resulted in strong substantive knowledge of global trademark laws and practice a knowledge which helps Mr. Boland's clients obtain the competitive edge in the global marketplace.
