Ira E. Silfin regularly advises clients on patent, trademark, copyright, and unfair competition matters, including the protection and licensing of intellectual property. He has had significant success prosecuting and defending intellectual property rights litigation in state, federal, and appellate courts.

Mr. Silfin’s recent work includes briefing and arguing claim construction issues at Markman hearings in patent infringement cases around the country. Mr. Silfin has tried patent infringement cases for both plaintiffs and defendants, and briefed cases for the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

His experience in mechanical engineering gives him a broad based understanding of many technologies. His work has been in such diverse fields as implantable medical devices, blood derived therapeutic products, online banking systems, and software-controlled, heavy-duty printing equipment.

Mr. Silfin has also worked on trademark and trade secret matters, including protecting the rights of a world famous band and anti-counterfeiting efforts of video games.

He is active in several civic and legal organizations, including belonging to the Association of the Bar of the City of New York and American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA). He is active in community organizations in his hometown of Scarsdale, New York.

Mr. Silfin received his undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering from The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in New York, New York. He graduated cum laude from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in New York City.
